Last year, the Rights Alliance reported a man for illegally sharing nude scenes with female actors in a group he managed on Reddit.
Today, the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK) has arrested a 39-year-old man from Valby and charged him with copyright infringement by sharing clips with nude scenes from Danish films and series on pornographic websites and in a private group on Reddit.
The development comes after the Rights Alliance last year reported a man for being behind the group on Reddit, which at the time of the report had over 6,000 members. The group provided a forum for the systematic sharing of nude and sex scenes from Danish films and TV series featuring more than 100 Danish female actors.
In a press release, NSK Police Commissioner Anders-Emil Kelbæk says:
‘I am pleased that we have now been able to make an arrest in this case. Both actors and rights holders have rightly felt offended when nude scenes have suddenly been shared in a completely different context than they were intended.’
CEO of the Rights Alliance, Maria Fredenslund, says:
‘This case deeply affects the rights holders involved and shows what can be at stake when content is shared without authorisation and out of context. Because every film or TV production is created by real people with personal boundaries and artistic visions that are seriously violated by this kind of illegal sharing. We are very reassured that it was stopped and that the NSK has conducted an investigation that has now led to an arrest.’
Summary of the case
In May 2023, the Rights Alliance became aware that manipulated sex and nude scenes with female actors were being systematically shared in a group on Reddit. The group had a large influx of users and was made private after some media coverage. However, the Rights Alliance managed to investigate and quickly report the matter to the police on behalf of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, the Danish Actors’ Association, the Danish Film Directors Association and the film producers from whom the nude scenes originated. As a result, the group was shut down shortly afterwards and the man suspected of being behind today was arrested and charged.
