The Danish Ministry of Culture and the Rights Alliance are calling on Danish companies to join the Dialogue Forum to cut off traffic and money flows to services with infringing content and thereby create a more legal internet.
Illegal internet services and websites with infringing content are heavily financed through ads and traffic, generating large sums of money for the criminal masterminds behind them.
Through the Ministry of Culture’s Dialogue Forum, a number of Danish actors are therefore working together to combat these services by targeting their financial foundation. This is done by payment providers and advertisers cutting off cash flows to services with illegal or infringing content, thereby working together to ensure a healthier and more legal internet.
The Ministry of Culture and the Rights Alliance see great potential for expanding the cooperation in the Dialogue Forum with more participants. An analysis of the Dialogue Forum’s development opportunities shows that search engines, recommendation services, payment services and social media in particular can make an important contribution to the effort by implementing the list of services in question in their systems.
Therefore, Danish companies are encouraged to investigate whether they can contribute to stopping advertising and traffic to services with illegal content by participating in the Dialogue Forum.
In the video, Minister of Culture Jakob Engel-Schmidt says:
“The Ministry of Culture is the initiator of the Dialogue Forum, and we are doing this because I believe it is important that we across industries and sectors stand together. The more companies and organizations that join the Dialogue Forum, the better framework we have for creating a safe, secure and legal internet.”
CEO of the Rights Alliance, Maria Fredenslund, says:
“Search engines, recommendation services, payment providers and social media can make a very valuable contribution to the Dialogue Forum’s work to cut off the flow of money to websites with illegal content. We hope that many companies and organizations will join the Dialogue Forum and contribute to the efforts to protect creative content and create a safer and more legal internet.”
Holger Rosendal, General Counsel at Danske Medier, says:
“Preventing the flow of money to illegal online services is important to protect creative producers’ content, including media content, and to create a safer and more legal internet. This requires a joint effort, which is why Danske Medier encourages other stakeholders to take part in the Dialogue Forum, which makes a big difference to the protection of creative content.”
About participating in the Dialogue Forum
By participating in the Dialogue Forum, stakeholders work together to create a safer and more legal internet by stopping the flow of money to websites with illegal and infringing content. This is done by signing the Codex of Cooperation and then, with the help of a list of the websites in question, implementing these in their own systems so that they do not send traffic to the infringing websites. The cooperation list is continuously updated with the websites that contain infringing content. The Rights Alliance has been appointed by the Ministry of Culture to administer the list.
