Young people share, stream, and consume media content like never before. That is why it is crucial that they understand copyright: what it means, why it exists – and the consequences of violating it.
Kunsten at overbevise is a teaching course aimed at lower secondary students that strengthens their understanding of communication, media use, and copyright. The course is based on the idea that knowledge only leads to genuine understanding and behavioral change when messages are communicated in multiple ways and repeated in different contexts.
Throughout the course, students work with the same theme across different formats. They analyze the campaign film Ulovlig streaming koster from Os Der Elsker Film, starring actor Jesper Ole, the explainer video Understand copyright in 3 Minutes, and the short story The Last Popcorn by Laura Ringo.
Along the way, students explore how rhetorical devices and persuasive appeals are used to influence the audience: What makes us understand a message? What evokes emotions? And what makes us believe what we see and read?
Kunsten at overbevise aims to strengthen students’ critical thinking skills, creative competencies, and understanding of responsible media use – skills that are essential in a digital everyday life like ours.
Pitch competition as part of the teaching course
The course culminates in a pitch competition, where students must apply their new knowledge in practice. Here, they are challenged to persuade others using targeted communication and creative strategies.
The competition is open until week 41 to all 7th–10th grade classes across Denmark. The course is freely available to everyone at osderelskerfilm.dk.
The course was developed by RettighedsAlliancen with support from Producentrettigheder Danmark and the Danish Film Institute.
