With the special status as a trusted flagger, online platforms are now obliged to prioritise the Rights Alliance’s reports of illegal content

In the future, Danish rights holders can look forward to the illegal sharing of their content reported by the Rights Alliance being removed faster from online platforms. This comes after the DSA under the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority recently appointed RettighedsAlliancen as the first Danish trusted flagger.

Trusted Flaggers is a scheme under the EU DSA Regulation that obliges online platforms to prioritise reports from trusted flaggers who have the expertise to report illegal content accurately and well-documented.

Director of the Danish Competition and Consumer Authority, Jakob Hald, says in a press release:

“Denmark is among the first countries to appoint a trusted flagger. Trusted flaggers will play a key role in the fight against illegal content online, and it is gratifying that more organisations have the expertise and resources to identify and report illegal content.”

The special status is an important tool

For a number of years, the Rights Alliance has had access to Meta, Google and now also TikTok’s takedown tools, with which we remove and prevent thousands of illegal ads and sharing of e.g. Danish films on the platforms. Enforcement on online platforms plays an important role in the protection of Danish content, and we are continuously working to improve the effectiveness of the platforms’ tools through our role as coordinator of a co-operation forum between rights holders and online platforms (Article 17 forum), where Meta, Google, Pinterest and TikTok participate.

CEO of the Rights Alliance, Maria Fredenslund says:

“Being designated as a trusted flagger is important for our work to protect rights. We look forward to working with online platforms to better ensure that there is no illegal content on their platforms. This will also make it a better place for users to be.

The Rights Alliance is not only the first Danish organisation to be designated as a trusted flagger, but also among the first organisations in Europe to achieve this special status.
