In 2022, Rights Alliance reported an organized sale of unauthorized access credentials for streaming and news services, as well as an illegal IPTV service. Now NSK has arrested and charged the third alleged perpetrator in the case.
The Section for Rights Protection under the National Unit for Special Crime (NSK) has just arrested a 31-year-old man from Nordjylland for copyright infringement of a particularly serious nature. This is stated in a press release from NSK yesterday, Wednesday, July 5, where the arrest of the accused also took place. Thus, the third suspected perpetrator behind the organized unauthorized sale of access information and illegal file sharing has been arrested and charged.
In January 2022, Rights Alliance reported the case to NSK, as our investigations showed an organized sale of unauthorized access credentials to various streaming services via a webshop. In addition, sales and communication among the criminals took place on a chat forum connected to the webshop. The access credentials sold belonged to unknowing paying subscribers of streaming services offering news, movies, music, e-books and audiobooks. Our investigations also showed that access to illegal IPTV containing more than 100,000 movies and series and access to Danish, Swedish and Norwegian TV channels were sold.
In a press release from NSK, Police Commissioner Anders-Emil Nøhr Kelbæk states:
“This case is about an organized network that has made money from entertainment content and news at the expense of the rightful rights holders. It is very satisfying that, based on a thorough investigation, we have now arrested another person who we consider to have had a leading role in the network.”
Maria Fredenslund, CEO of Rights Alliance, says:
“When access to content on streaming services is sold unauthorized in criminal networks, it not only affects the services and the affected rights holders, but also the paying subscribers whose access information is resold without their knowledge. We are therefore pleased that NSK has succeeded in identifying the suspected perpetrators, and we look forward to following the development of the case.”
