The UdRet Project (Education in Rights) aims to inform students in higher education about how they can easily and legally obtain their textbooks, as well as to explain why copyright is important—including for the students themselves—and why it is essential that copyright law be respected.
The project thus focuses on the legal options students have for accessing textbooks, including using the institution’s library, the copying agreement with Tekst&Node, the institution’s bookstore—or even the option of buying used, physical books. It also emphasizes that students must not share their digital textbooks with one another.
As part of Project UdRet, the Rights Alliance, together with a working group consisting of representatives from Aalborg University, the Technical University of Denmark, UCN University College, and Copenhagen Business Academy, has therefore developed a range of materials that educational institutions can use in their communication with students.
The resource package includes three videos, a guide for tutors, flyers, and slides that instructors can use.
The three videos focus on the following:
- Why copyright is important—including for students
- How to gain easy and legal access to study materials
- Debunking some of the myths surrounding textbooks.
The resource package also includes a poster that can be customized to comply with each institution’s local copying policies.
