In collaboration with Gyldendal, RettighedsAlliancen produces articles for Gyldendal’s social studies portal. The articles are for use in social studies lessons and cover local and global events and important themes. They have a scope corresponding to two lessons. The articles, called ‘Spot på’ [Spot on], consist of a socially relevant text written for 8th-10th grade with term clarifications, academic questions, statistics, fact boxes, examples and more.

Deepfake

Can we trust what we think we recognize online?
The answer is no. With advanced AI technology, it is possible to manipulate digital content and make people say and do things they have never said or done – in videos, images, and audio that appear frighteningly real.

In this “Spot On” article, students will explore how deepfakes challenge our understanding of what is true and false – and learn to approach the content they encounter online with a critical mindset.

Public figures are particularly vulnerable to having their identities misused as part of scams and misinformation: Is it really Taylor Swift’s nude photo, the voice of voice actor David Bateson, or top diplomat Moussa Faki holding a video meeting with Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen?

In a digital age marked by misinformation, artificial intelligence makes it harder for us to know which content we can trust. That is why it is more important than ever to think critically – and this “Spot On” article on deepfakes aims to help with exactly that.

Shared 4.2 million times

Is it your own fault if you are shared millions of times on social media? That’s what the students have to consider in “Shared 4.2 million times”, a course about image sharing, digital infringement and consent online.

The course is based on a case from the spring of 2023, when Danish Broadcasting Corporation revealed that over 100 Danish actresses’ nude and sex scenes were shared and discussed in a subreddit on the social media Reddit.

In the course, students learn why it is an illegal act to cut intimate scenes from a work and share it as pornographic material on various social media and what the consequences of sharing are. They should consider their own use of social media and how they can ensure that their own online behavior is legal and respectful.

The material for “Shared 4.2 million times” is available via Gyldendal here.

“Shared 4.2 million times” is available free of charge to all elementary schools. The course is published in collaboration with Gyldendal and has been developed in collaboration with the Danish Actors Association.

Are you a thief?

A survey from the Danish Chamber of Commerce from 2022 shows that almost one in three young people aged 15-29 have streamed or downloaded illegal content in the past 12 months. But why do so many young people stream content illegally when it has never been easier to stream movies, series, music and sports legally? The target group gets to find out for themselves in this “Spot på” article.

The course is designed to teach students about copyright and how to relate to the streaming culture they are a part of. This includes knowledge about the rules and laws that are broken when abusing and distributing creative content, as well as the personal and societal consequences of illegal streaming.
